PROFESSIONAL LEASH TRAINING
Clear communication. Balanced structure. Better walks.
MEET THE TRAINER: MICHAEL MELE

Mike Mele is the lead trainer for leash training at Trusty Paws Exercise & Care. A professional and experienced handler, Mike has had dogs throughout his entire life, developing a strong foundation in canine behavior from an early age. When he began living on his own, he raised his yellow Labrador, Nelli, from just 8 weeks old—an experience that further shaped his hands-on approach to training. Through working with her daily, Mike developed a strong interest in leash behavior, communication, and the relationship between dog and handler. That early experience ultimately influenced his training philosophy and led him to become heavily educated in leash work and structured walking techniques.
Mike believes that successful dog training starts with the human. His approach centers around the idea that owners are often the ones who need guidance in timing, consistency, and communication just as much as the dog. He also recognizes that every dog is unique, and therefore requires an individualized approach rather than a one-size-fits-all method.
Because of this, Mike utilizes fully customizable training plans tailored to each dog’s specific temperament, drive, and behavioral needs. Tools such as training collars and correction methods are introduced only when appropriate for the individual dog and are always selected based on what will create the clearest communication and best learning outcome.
His leash training program is designed to build both structure and understanding between dog and owner. It includes a meet and greet evaluation, hands-on training sessions with both the dog and owner, and an optional maintenance plan to ensure long-term success. The goal is not only improved leash manners, but also a stronger bond, clearer communication, and consistent reinforcement through structured walks and continued guidance.
